Katsina has become the first state in Nigeria’s North-West region to formally unveil a Policy on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) alongside a detailed Action Plan on Durable Solutions.
The historic launch was made Tuesday at a town hall meeting held at the Local Government Commission, with technical support from the UNDP and funding from the World Bank’s SOLID Project.
Represented by his deputy, Hon. Faruk Lawal Jobe, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda described the policy as a milestone in the state’s humanitarian response.
“This policy signals our firm resolve to build a Katsina where no one is left behind—where the most vulnerable among us are seen, heard, and protected,” the governor said.
The 45-page Action Plan, he explained, provides a costed five-year roadmap focused on shelter, education, health, legal identity, and livelihoods.
Dr. Abubakar Imam of the SOLID Project revealed Katsina is home to over 270,000 IDPs. “Our vision is to ensure they can return, integrate, or relocate safely,” he said.
Stakeholders endorsed the documents, with validation to follow.
