The Katsina State Government has launched a N100 million Climate-Smart Agribusiness Empowerment Scheme aimed at transforming agricultural practices among smallholder farmers in the state.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Kaulaha Muhammad.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, who flagged off the initiative in partnership with the African Union Development Agency-New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AUDA-NEPAD), described it as a turning point in the state’s agricultural development.
“This is not just a routine empowerment program—it is a deliberate investment in our people, in our economy, and in our future,” Radda said. “We want our farmers to move from subsistence to commercial production using smarter, climate-resilient approaches.”
The scheme, jointly funded with N63.75 million from NEPAD and N36.25 million from the state, will offer inputs, irrigation tools, and training to boost productivity.
NEPAD’s National Coordinator, Hon. Salisu Jabiru Tsauri, noted, “This scheme is a gateway to achieving Agenda 2063 of the African Union.”
Also speaking, the Governor’s SSA on SDGs, Maryam Sodangi, said it would “lay the foundation for food security amid environmental changes.”
