The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has inaugurated the newly constituted Governing Board of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), urging its members to embrace discipline, focus and a reform-driven approach in repositioning Nigeria’s maritime sector.
The information was contained in a press statement signed by Special Adviser, Media and Communications, to the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, on Monday, Dr. Bolaji Akinola
“Your role is pivotal to the development of a competitive and efficient port system — one that meets global standards and contributes meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic transformation,” Oyetola said during the ceremony at the Ministry’s Conference Room in Abuja on Monday.
Reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to institutional reforms, Oyetola stressed the Board’s oversight function must not interfere with daily management.
“It is important to emphasise that the day-to-day operations and execution of policy decisions remain solely the responsibility of the Managing Director and the Management Team,” he said, noting that this separation of powers is enshrined in the NPA Act and the Public Procurement Act of 2007.
He also called for constructive engagement marked by “professionalism, mutual respect, and shared responsibility.”
Chairman of the new Board, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, who spoke on behalf of the members, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the trust placed in the team.
Adeyeye praised Oyetola for his “unwavering support” and described him as “the head of the family under whose leadership the Board would function with a spirit of shared purpose and without discord.”
