To combat the surge in diet-related non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes and hypertension, the Kano State Government has launched a two-day training workshop for Local Government Information Officers.
The programme, which commenced Monday at Babale Suite, Kano, is themed “Promoting Healthy Dietary Practices and Reducing the Incidence of Diet-Related Non-Communicable Diseases in Kano State.”
Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the initiative responds to the increasing burden of diet-related illnesses across urban and rural areas.
“The rising burden of these illnesses, largely driven by poor nutrition and unhealthy lifestyles, is a serious public health concern,” he noted.
Waiya praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s support, describing the workshop as a testament to the administration’s “people-focused healthcare delivery.”
He added, “Your participation reflects your dedication to public service. Human capital development is key to effective governance.”
Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Adamu Bala Muhammad, urged officers to apply the knowledge gained. “Translate this into actionable community enlightenment,” he said.
The workshop continues Tuesday with expert-led sessions.
