In a bid to strengthen emergency preparedness, the Lagos State Health District V has trained officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Neighbourhood Safety Corps, and teachers in life-saving skills.

The Permanent Secretary of Health District V, Dr Oladapo Asiyanbi, during the two-day training in Festac Town, said, “This initiative equips first responders with essential emergency care skills that can be deployed in real time, especially on highways and within communities.”

Asiyanbi urged the officers to make effective use of the state’s toll-free emergency numbers, noting that they must act as first responders before professional help arrives.

“When emergencies occur, officers and community leaders should not be helpless. They must have the basic skills to stabilise victims and prevent avoidable deaths,” he stressed, highlighting vital areas covered such as CPR, shock management, and first aid response.

He further challenged participants to “educate at least 50 individuals in their communities and workplaces,” describing the training as the first of many to come. “Plans are underway to extend this programme to religious bodies, community associations, and NGOs.

This reflects the Lagos State Government’s commitment to building a responsive society where citizens are active partners in health and safety,” the statement added.
