No fewer than 20 local government areas in Kano State have been certified as Open Defecation-Free (ODF), bringing the total number of certified councils in the state to 26.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, while receiving the certificates, expressed confidence that Kano would soon attain full ODF status. “Kano State will soon be declared Open Defecation Free,” Yusuf said, noting that six additional LGAs were close to achieving the mark.
He added that the state had provided latrines and sanitary materials across communities to tackle open defecation.
Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, described the ODF milestone as a key step in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. “The Clean Nigeria Campaign is not just a sanitation drive; it is a cornerstone of Mr President’s agenda,” Utsev said.
Health Commissioner Dr. Abubakar Labaran said the campaign had reduced waterborne diseases in Kano.
