The Lagos State Government, on Tuesday, reiterated its commitment to protecting consumers through robust food safety standards at the 2025 Food Safety Workshop held in Lagos.
Declaring the event open, Director General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, stressed the urgency of integrating food safety into health and industrial policies.
“Food safety must be central to our health and industrial policies. Protecting the public from food-borne risks is not negotiable, and it requires collaboration across all levels — government, private sector, and consumers,” Mojola said.
He also commended DIDONI Company Limited for partnering with the state to promote a more resilient and safety-conscious food system.
Held under the theme “Food Safety First: Protecting Consumers, Empowering Industries,” the workshop brought together key players from across Nigeria’s food value chain—including policymakers, regulators, food scientists, manufacturers, and public health experts.
The event featured panel discussions and technical sessions on regulatory compliance, safe packaging, and hygienic food processing.
According to participants, lapses in food safety can result in serious consequences such as product recalls, legal actions, and public distrust.
Speaking during the event, Chief Executive Officer of DIDONI Company Limited, Adekola Joseph, emphasised that unsafe food has far-reaching consequences.
“When food is unsafe, lives are at risk, economies suffer, and consumer confidence is eroded,” Joseph said.
He called on all stakeholders to embed food safety in their operational culture and decision-making processes, stressing that the workshop was a wake-up call to put consumer protection at the heart of food production and distribution.
