The Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr Muyi Aina, has reaffirmed that immunisation is a non-negotiable right of every Nigerian child.
In an interview in an interview with journalists in Abuja on Sunday, Aina stressed the importance of vaccines in safeguarding children’s health.
“Vaccination is not just a health intervention, it is every child’s right. No child should suffer or die from preventable diseases. Vaccines are free, safe, and effective,” he declared, urging parents to take their children to the nearest health facility for full immunisation.
Aina revealed that NPHCDA, working with development partners and state governments, is intensifying efforts to reach zero-dose children—those who have never received any vaccines—especially in remote and underserved areas.
“This campaign is about saving lives and building a healthier future. We are asking Nigerians to be vaccine champions. Share the message, encourage your neighbours, and ensure every eligible child is vaccinated,” he appealed, highlighting the need for widespread community participation to overcome vaccine hesitancy.
Emphasising the role of routine immunisation in preventing diseases like polio, measles, and hepatitis B, Aina called on all sectors—including traditional leaders, religious institutions, civil society, and the media—to support the nationwide vaccination drive.
“Vaccinating every child is how we build immunity and protect even the most vulnerable among us. It is a duty we owe our children—to give them a strong, healthy start in life,” he said.
Aina concluded with gratitude to parents and caregivers: “By allowing your children to receive the polio and other lifesaving vaccines, you’re not just protecting your own family—you are helping to build a healthier, safer Nigeria for all.”
