The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Dr Mkor Aondona, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Benue State on Documentation, Research and Planning, over allegations of sextortion, cyberbullying and blackmail.

According to a statement released on Saturday by the Makurdi Zonal Directorate of the EFCC, Aondona was taken into custody on Friday, 20 June 2025, following a series of disturbing complaints from female students who accused him of engaging in exploitative and criminal conduct.

The EFCC disclosed that the complainants alleged that Dr Aondona routinely recruited slim, attractive young women for ushering roles, but made sexual favours a condition for their selection. They further claimed that he secretly recorded their sexual encounters without their consent and used the footage to blackmail them into further sexual activity.

“Some of the victims said they were coerced into continuing these unwanted relationships under the threat that explicit videos of them—allegedly recorded without their knowledge—would be leaked,” the EFCC said.

The agency added that some of the illicit videos had already been shared via various messaging platforms.

“The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the commission confirmed.

Aondona’s arrest has sparked outrage in Makurdi, with civil society groups calling for a broader investigation into similar cases of abuse of office and gender-based violence.

The EFCC reiterated its commitment to pursuing justice in cases involving sexual exploitation and digital crimes, urging members of the public to report such abuses.
