NEMA Launches Flood Awareness Drive in Lagos State

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has initiated a flood awareness campaign in Lagos State to enhance prevention and safety, following the 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction by NIMET.

According to a statement released by NEMA on their X (formerly known as Twitter) account on Thursday, the campaign began in Oke-Isagun, a flood-prone community. NEMA officials and NYSC Emergency Management Volunteers distributed materials and trained residents on preparedness and response strategies.

Residents were advised to prepare emergency kits, plan evacuations, and avoid floodwaters to prevent contamination risks. They were urged to relocate to higher ground during flash floods and refrain from walking or driving through flooded areas.

Community leaders were engaged on improving waste management and clearing drainage systems. Leaders were encouraged to establish embankment projects and designate safe muster points with access to clean water and essentials.

The Head of Operations stressed empowering communities with flood risk reduction knowledge. Residents thanked NEMA and committed to implementing the strategies to safeguard lives and property.
