The Kano State Government has commenced a capacity-building training for Heads of Departments (HODs) from six Local Government Areas (LGAs) as part of efforts to make the state Open Defecation Free (ODF).
The training, organised by the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA), targets officials from Doguwa, Sumaila, Bebeji, Tudun Wada, Tofa, and Bunkure LGAs.
Speaking on Wednesday during the opening session, RUWASA’s Director of Planning and Mobilisation, Mrs Zahara’u Isyaku, said, “The training is aimed at sensitising HODs on their roles in promoting sanitation and empowering them to engage communities more effectively.”
She added that RUWASA had conducted prior field visits to assess sanitation progress and challenges in the target areas.
“Achieving ODF status is critical to public health, as poor sanitation contributes to waterborne diseases,” she stressed.
Some participants commended the initiative and pledged to replicate the knowledge at the grassroots level.
