In a strategic move to intensify the fight against corruption in Nigeria, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has entered into a groundbreaking partnership with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), aimed at deploying advanced technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in anti-graft operations.
The deal was formalized on Wednesday through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Muhammadu Buhari Technology and Innovation Complex in Abuja.
In a statement issued by ICPC’s Director of Public Enlightenment and Education and spokesperson, Demola Bakare, the Commission noted that the partnership is expected to equip it with much-needed technological tools to confront modern-day corruption.
Speaking at the ceremony, ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, described the collaboration as “a critical partnership between an innovative agency and an anti-graft agency,” emphasizing the importance of leveraging tech-driven solutions in a digital age.
“ICPC would like to appreciate NASENI for its readiness to collaborate in providing the necessary technological resources in confronting the current challenges of corruption,” Dr. Aliyu stated.
He further expressed optimism that the synergy would mark the beginning of a transformative journey in governance and anti-corruption enforcement. “I hope this MoU will open a way for us to see how we can partner to tackle the issue of corruption that is facing Nigeria today,” he said.
On his part, NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, commended ICPC’s proactive stance and commitment to collaboration, which he said was not common among government agencies.
“ICPC has been one of the most proactive partners that we engage with. Frankly speaking, there are times we reach out to agencies and have to keep chasing them, even when they stand to benefit the most. But ICPC has shown rare seriousness,” Halilu remarked.
He also lauded the joint efforts of both teams in bringing the agreement to fruition and pledged full support towards the implementation of the pact.
The MoU was officially signed by the heads of both agencies, in the presence of their respective management teams, signaling a united front in applying indigenous technology to tackle entrenched corruption in Nigeria.
