JAMB to Sanctions 11 CBT Centres, Registrants over Fingerprint Infractions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has recommended tough penalties for 11 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres and several registrants involved in fingerprint irregularities during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, announced the decision after a stakeholder meeting with the affected CBT operators and registrants on Tuesday in Abuja. He said the recommendations, pending approval from the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, aim to protect the integrity of the examination process.

According to Oloyede, “any registrant who has registered more than 50 candidates (with infractions) should be dismissed from participating in any activities of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.” Such individuals would be barred from writing the UTME or any other national exams like WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB for three years, subject to review.

He added that CBT centres involved would be required to undergo mandatory ethical training at nearby federal universities before re-engagement. “We will not allow any of these centres to do anything with us until they bring a certificate, a letter from a federal institution closest to that centre that their staff had been trained on ethical standards,” he stressed.

The meeting also heard confessions from some operators and registrants, while stakeholders like former Lagos Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, called for prosecutions but appealed for leniency.

Eleven identified CBT centres across 10 states were named in the malpractice cases.
