Spiralling Violence: Tinubu Cancels Kaduna Trip, Heads for Benue

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rescheduled his planned visit to Kaduna State and will instead travel to Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, in a decisive move aimed at addressing the persistent violence plaguing communities in the state.

In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the presidency said the visit underscores Tinubu’s “renewed efforts to foster peace and assess firsthand the recurring crisis that has claimed numerous lives and caused significant destruction.”

“President Tinubu will meet with all stakeholders—including traditional rulers, political, religious, and community leaders, as well as youth groups—to seek lasting solutions to the hostilities,” the statement added.

Ahead of the visit, Tinubu has dispatched top federal officials to Benue, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, heads of intelligence agencies, the National Security Adviser, and the chairmen of both the Senate and House Committees on Defence.

During his trip, the President is expected to hold a town hall meeting with stakeholders to directly engage affected communities.
