Despite heavy rains on Saturday, the Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Committee (LSBTC), marked World Blood Donor Day 2025 with a fitness walk, youth-focused donation drive, and grand Extravaganza at its Gbagada headquarters.

Speaking at the occasion, LSBTC’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Bodunrin Osikomaiya hailed voluntary donors as heroes, saying, “Their actions are noble and their impact immeasurable.”

She urged Lagosians to demystify donation by visiting LSBTC facilities, adding, “When people see the care and professionalism behind every pint, the myths and fears disappear.”

The event drew health advocates, including the Red Cross and Medical Women Association of Nigeria, who braved the rain with placards promoting blood donation.

Nigerian Red Cross Kosofe leader, Mr. Benjamin Aghoro, praised Lagos for championing voluntary donation, stressing, “Blood donation is safe and lifesaving. We must keep educating the public and demystify the myths surrounding it.”

Consultant Haematologist Dr. Adebukola Orolu added, “Without voluntary donors, lives are lost daily. Children and mothers rely on these donations.”

Corporate bodies like Fidson Healthcare lent support, with Manager Temitope Akindele noting, “Over 10,000 donors were captured through this platform last year alone. That’s proof of structure and results.”

The Youth Extravaganza capped the day with games, music, and on-site donations. Blood ambassador Jonathan Aghoro summed it up: “One pint of blood can save three lives. That’s powerful. That’s humanity.”
