GSM Market Fire: Kano to Probe Incident, Inaugurates Panel

The Kano State Government has inaugurated a high-powered committee to investigate the recent fire that ravaged the GSM Market at Farm Centre, causing losses worth millions of naira.

The committee was inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

“We must not allow this unfortunate incident to be politicized,” Ibrahim said. “All donations and assistance must be channelled through the committee or the official government account to ensure accountability.”

The committee, chaired by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Alhaji Nasiru Sule Garo, includes members from key ministries, the police, DSS, Fire Service, SEMA, and the Farm Centre GSM Traders’ Association.

Ibrahim said the panel will assess the damage, determine the causes of the fire, evaluate emergency response, and recommend measures to prevent future incidents.

“We expect the committee to submit a comprehensive report within one week,” he added.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting victims and rebuilding the market in a safer and better-organized manner.
