In a bold move to bolster maternal healthcare, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu distributed 10,000 professional kits—including scrubs and Crocs—to midwives and nurses across the five states of the Southeast.

The initiative, part of her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), marked the completion of a nationwide distribution of 60,000 kits aimed at reducing infant and maternal mortality.

“We are here today to flag off the distribution of the professional kits which will be distributed among the five states in the Southeast zone,” said Senator Tinubu at the event held in Enugu. “I thank God that today, we’re concluding the distribution of these kits to every part of Nigeria. I’m very excited about that.”

The First Lady revealed that the donation was made possible through an anonymous global partner committed to supporting healthcare in Africa, first engaged at the 2023 UN General Assembly.

She also announced the launch of the Free to Shine campaign and Triple Elimination Initiative to combat mother-to-child transmission of HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis.

“This initiative aims to promote healthier mothers, reduce new HIV infections among women of reproductive age, and provide treatment for children born with HIV,” she stated.

Senator Tinubu further praised the support from the Enugu State government, health ministers, and agencies involved in implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda.

In a complementary gesture, the wife of the Enugu State governor, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, distributed N100 million to 1,500 petty traders, which was matched with an additional N100 million from RHI and the Tony Elumelu Foundation.

Expressing gratitude, Mrs. Mbah said, “Midwives are at the front lines of maternal and child health. Empowering these important healthcare workers is crucial to reducing mortality rates.”

She lauded the First Lady’s efforts as a “true reflection of transformative leadership” and affirmed Enugu State’s commitment to improving healthcare through its Strategic Health Development Plan.
