FG Declares June 12 Public Holiday, Celebrates 26 Years of Uninterrupted Civil Rule

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, June 12, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate Democracy Day.

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, congratulated Nigerians on this milestone, marking 26 years of uninterrupted civil rule.

According to the minister, “June 12 represents our historic journey to building a nation where truth and justice reign and peace is sustained and our future assured.”

The minister reflected on the country’s progress, stating, “The last 26 years tells the story of our resilience, strength and courage and a hope Renewed than ever.”

He emphasized that democracy thrives with open doors for improvement, reaffirming the Renewed Hope government’s commitment to democratic values. These values prioritize the freely-expressed will of the people in shaping Nigeria’s systems.

The Minister says the government remains dedicated to upholding democracy, which is fundamental to Nigeria’s development.
