Hussaini Kafi in Kano
The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, on Friday, led separate Eid-el-Kabir prayers in Kano, deepening the ongoing tussle over the revered throne.
Sanusi observed the Eid prayer around 8:15 am at the Kofar Mata Eid ground, accompanied by a sea of worshippers and the state Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo, who represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, currently on pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
The former Central Bank Governor arrived and departed on foot, drawing large crowds who cheered as he walked through Kofar Mata, Mandawari, and Wambai.
Many residents, clad in festive attire, lined the streets in celebration despite the absence of the traditional Durbar.
“It’s not the Durbar that makes Sallah special. Seeing Sanusi among the people meant everything,” said Saminu Yusuf, a Dala resident.
Gwarzo, through his Press Secretary, Ibrahim Shuaibu, urged Muslims to use the season for reflection and peacebuilding.
Meanwhile, Bayero led a parallel congregation at the Nasarawa Mini Palace at 8:00 am, attended by APC leaders including Chairman Abdullahi Abbas.
In his Sallah message, Bayero called for increased infrastructure and urged clerics to guide youth positively, while praying for peace and national stability.
