The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) held a one-day stakeholders’ engagement in Lafia, Nasarawa State, to boost community preparedness for flood risks in 2025.
According to a statement released by NEMA on their X (formerly known as Twitter) account on Monday, the event highlighted the severe impact of past floods and stressed collaborative efforts among government, partners, and communities. It incorporated NiMet and NIHSA’s 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction and Annual Flood Outlook to shape mitigation strategies.
NEMA conducted practical flood sensitization in Gandu community, training residents in Hausa on emergency actions and resuscitation techniques. The Red Cross supported the effort, and a first aid box was donated to the community.
The engagement involved deputy chairmen from Nasarawa’s 13 LGAs, state officials, and community leaders. Their participation underscored a unified approach to disaster response and flood preparedness.
