Troops Intercept Oil Theft Worth over N1bn as Scores of Boko Haram/ISWAP Terrorists Surrendered in 1 Month

Military operations in the South-South region of Nigeria under Operation DELTA SAFE has dismantled over 97 illegal refineries and intercepted oil theft worth over N1 billion.

Seized items included over 853,000 litres of crude oil and thousands of litres of illegally refined petroleum products. At least 65 suspects were arrested during the raids.

The significant recovery of oil facilities from vandals is part of the outcomes of intensified counter –pipelines efforts of the military.

Also, the military intensified counter-insurgency assaults leaving scores of Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters — including women and children — surrendered to Nigerian troops in the North-East between May 22 and 28, 2025, as sustained military pressure continues to dismantle terrorist strongholds.

The Director, Defence Media Operations, DDMO, Major General Markus Kangye disclosed this in a statement containing Defence Headquarters latest operational update on the activities of troops across Nigeria,

Major Gen, Kangye shared the release with defence journalists on Friday.

The Defence Headquarters has described the surrender as a result of intensified offensives under Operation HADIN KAI, which also saw several insurgents neutralized and 16 kidnapped victims rescued in Bama, Damboa, Ngala, Gwoza, Kukawa, and Chibok (Borno State), and Gujba (Yobe State). Recovered items included firearms, explosives, fuel containers, and motorcycles.

In addition, 23 terrorist collaborators and logistics suppliers were arrested across Marte, Mafa, and Ngala in Borno, and Geidam and Potiskum in Yobe. Confiscated materials ranged from fertilizer and grains to IED-making components and N557,200 in cash.

Troops under Operation FASAN YAMMA, in the Northwest, rescued over 100 kidnapped persons through non-kinetic efforts and precision raids in Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara States. Notable rescue operations took place in Faskari, Sabuwa, and Danmusa (Katsina), and Sabon Birni and Illela (Sokoto).

In the North-Central, security forces under Operations SAFE HAVEN and WHIRL STROKE neutralized criminals, arrested over 30 suspects, and freed dozens of kidnap victims during operations across Plateau, Kaduna, Benue, Kogi, and Taraba States.

The Armed Forces affirmed its commitment to adapting strategies to counter evolving threats, emphasizing its focus on civilian safety and national stability. The public was urged to support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities.
