The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has handed over Obi Levi Obieze, a native doctor from Enugu State, to the Lagos State Police Command following his arrest at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme Expressway.
Obieze, also known as Obu Onyeka, Ezeani, and E-Dey-Play-E-Dey-Show, was attempting to flee the country on a commercial motorcycle when he was intercepted around 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
“The commercial motorcyclist had passed the immigration checkpoint at Gbaji when an officer, recognizing the suspect, ordered the rider to stop. Obieze attempted to flee, but officers quickly apprehended him,” a source revealed.
He was restrained in hand and leg cuffs and masked during his handover to Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh.
Obieze had previously evaded arrest and was declared wanted in connection with the kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl, who was later rescued from a shrine allegedly linked to him.
Police investigations uncovered two decomposing bodies hidden in a pit at his residence in Umojior village, Ezeagu LGA, sealed with concrete.
Three suspects — Uche Kingsley Agumba, Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi, and Ejike Odinwankpa, have also been arrested in connection with the abduction.
Selected journalists were invited to witness the handover but were denied access to speak with the suspect, who remains a central figure in an unfolding case involving ritual killings and kidnapping.
Reacting to the arrest, the Enugu State Government confirmed the demolition of Obieze’s mansions in Umumba Ndiagu on Tuesday in accordance with state laws governing properties tied to kidnapping.
“This arrest has further strengthened our hands in our bid to ensure that justice is served on all the persons involved in the gory incidents,” said Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia.
He commended the vigilance of immigration officers and urged community leaders and security stakeholders to remain alert. “
This administration will not condone any form of criminality in our communities under any guise,” Onyia emphasized, warning that those who shield criminals will also be held accountable.
