President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja for Lagos on Tuesday to join other leaders in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, disclosed in a statement on Monday that the golden jubilee was initially flagged off in Accra in April.
“The Lagos events will include reenacting the 1975 declaration at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island,” Onanuga noted.
The events will feature notable participants, including Gen. Yakubu Gowon, the only surviving Head of State who signed the ECOWAS declaration.
Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi will review the bloc’s 50-year journey, while Dr. Omar Touray will deliver the welcome address. President Tinubu will highlight ECOWAS milestones as the current Chairman.
While in Lagos, President Tinubu will commission several projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Lekki Deep Sea Port Tax Credit Concrete Road, and flag off other projects virtually on May 31.
“The President will also commission the 7th Axial Road and virtually inaugurate major projects in Kano and Katsina, including the Kano Northern By-pass and several road sections,” the statement read.
