Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, on Monday met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to brief him on the recent surge in Boko Haram attacks across parts of Borno State.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the closed-door meeting, Governor Zulum said he visited the president to present a truthful account of the deteriorating security situation in the state.
“We have learned that the president has been misinformed. That is why I decided to come and personally brief him on what is truly happening in Borno before any decisions are made. We thank God that the president has promised to cooperate with us and support the fight against insurgency with new and modern equipment,” Zulum stated.
The governor noted that he recently visited five local government areas affected by renewed Boko Haram attacks and said the situation was beginning to improve due to ongoing efforts.
“Maybe you heard that last week I visited five local governments affected by the recent insurgent attacks. Things are gradually getting better,” he said.
Zulum emphasized that despite the commendable efforts of Nigerian troops, the security situation requires modern military equipment and greater support from the federal government.
“I told the president that while our troops are doing their best, we still need advanced equipment to effectively contain the situation,” he said.
He added that his administration would continue to do everything possible to overcome the crisis, affirming his commitment to truth and fearless leadership.
“I am not afraid to speak the truth. No one can kill me except God,” the governor declared.
