The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has confirmed that more than 70% of candidates who sat for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination scored below 200 marks.
According to official data released with the resit results, 1,365,479 candidates, representing 70.7% of those who participated, fell below the 200 mark. Meanwhile, only 29.3%, 565,988 candidates scored 200 and above.
A breakdown of the performance showed that just 0.88%, 17,025 candidates managed to score 300 marks and above, an improvement on the 0.46% recorded in 2024, but still low in comparison to historical trends.
Additionally, 6.08%, 117,373 candidates scored 250 and above, reflecting a marginal rise in higher band scores while the majority clustered in the lower range.
The result pattern continues a long-running trend in UTME outcomes, where most candidates struggle to attain competitive scores for tertiary admission. Performance figures have largely remained between 11% and 34% for scores of 200 and above over the last 12 years.
