The Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) has marked a major medical milestone with the successful completion of a complex spinal surgery, a development hailed as a step forward for healthcare delivery in the South-South region of Nigeria.
According to a statement released on Saturday, the surgery—a T11-L3 posterior spine stabilization—was performed on Thursday at RSUTH’s state-of-the-art Modular Theatre. Hospital officials confirmed that the patient is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
RSUTH management described the procedure as a demonstration of the hospital’s expanding capacity to handle advanced orthopaedic surgeries, reducing the need for patients to seek treatment abroad.
“This accomplishment showcases both our top-notch facilities and the commitment and skill of our surgical team,” the hospital said.
The teaching hospital said the successful procedure aligns with its broader strategy to position itself as a leading center for specialized surgical care in the region.
