Students from across Lagos State gathered at the Lagos Television (LTV) Combo Hall on Tuesday for an inter-school malaria quiz competition organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Health as part of activities marking World Malaria Day 2025.

The information is contained in a statement on Wednesday, signed by the Director, Public Affairs, Tunbosun Ogunbanwo. The event was designed to promote awareness, prevention, and early testing of malaria through youth engagement.

“Today, we are not just learning, we are building a generation that will lead the fight against malaria in Lagos,” said Director of Disease Control, Dr. Victoria Egunjobi.

Education District VI emerged as the overall winner of the keenly contested competition, which tested students’ knowledge on malaria symptoms, treatment protocols, and prevention strategies.

A Consultant Paediatrician and digital health advocate, Dr. Ayodele Renner, delivered a lecture titled “What I Need to Know About Malaria”, urging students to be health advocates. “Each of you here today can be a malaria prevention ambassador. Go and teach your classmates, your parents, even your younger siblings,” he said.

The event also featured remarks from the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health, Dr. Oluwatoni Adeyemi, who praised the students’ enthusiasm and described them as “future leaders who are eager to learn and ready to act.”

She urged them to spread the message of malaria testing before treatment, stressing that “guesswork has no place in malaria treatment.”

In her closing remarks, Programme Manager of the Lagos State Malaria Elimination Programme, Dr. Abimbola Osinowo, called for action beyond the event.

“What you have learned today about testing, prevention, and treatment should become part of your daily life,” she said, urging the continued use of insecticide-treated nets and proper environmental hygiene.

The statement was signed by Tunbosun Ogunbanwo, Director of Public Affairs, Lagos State Ministry of Health.
