In a renewed call for decisive military action against insecurity, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has urged troops of the Nigerian Army stationed at Dukku Barracks in Birnin Kebbi to intensify their operations and bring an end to banditry and violent crimes plaguing the North West region.

According to a statement on Monday, the visit, held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, was part of the minister’s operational tour to assess the progress of military operations and boost the morale of soldiers on the frontlines.

Addressing the troops, Minister Badaru conveyed the appreciation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the entire nation for the military’s resilience, professionalism, and sacrifices in the pursuit of peace and stability.

“The President and the nation are profoundly grateful for your unwavering commitment,” Badaru said. “Your courage and sacrifices are not unnoticed.”

In a stirring moment during his speech, the Minister asked, “Are you ready to end it?” referring to the ongoing battle against insecurity. The soldiers responded with a thunderous, “Yes! Sir!”—a signal of unity and determination to continue the fight until peace is fully restored.

Badaru emphasized the federal government’s unwavering support for the Armed Forces, noting that the welfare, equipment, and operational needs of troops remain top priorities of the Tinubu administration.

He also reaffirmed the government’s strategic focus on restoring security in the North West and across the country, enabling Nigerians to go about their daily lives free from the fear of violence.

The visit to Kebbi comes amid heightened military operations in the region, where armed banditry, kidnapping, and communal clashes have disrupted lives and livelihoods. The Minister’s engagement is seen as part of broader efforts to boost troop morale and ensure synergy between military leadership and front-line operatives.

Observers say the Defence Minister’s direct interface with troops is a significant step in strengthening civil-military relations and underscores the seriousness of the current administration in tackling insecurity head-on.
