Yobe Unveils 80-Bed Ultra-Modern Pediatric Complex in Damaturu

In a major step forward for child health and development, the Yobe State Government has inaugurated an ultra-modern 80-bed Pediatric Complex at the Yobe State Specialist Hospital, Damaturu.

The facility was commissioned on behalf  of Mai Mala Buni, Governor of Yobe State, by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Muhammad Lawan Gana.

The development was contained in a statement by Aliyu Yusuf, a Special Assistant to the Yobe State Governor on New Media and Strategy, which was made available to the AHR on Saturday.

According to the statement, the N800 million project reflects the state’s commitment to improving pediatric and maternal healthcare across Yobe.

Developed in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the complex is designed to serve as a Centre of Excellence for pediatric care and nutrition stabilization.

Equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities, including a pediatric pharmacy, kitchen, laundry services, and a child-friendly play area, the facility aims to provide comprehensive and nurturing care for children in need of specialized treatment.

Delivering Governor Buni’s message during the event, Dr. Gana remarked “This facility is not just a structure; it is a statement of our collective resolve to give every child a fighting chance at life.”

The Commissioner extended the state’s appreciation to the ICRC for their financial support in the project and their commitment to bolstering the facility’s manpower needs for the next three years.

Dr. Usman Geidam, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, emphasized the transformative impact of the complex, noting its potential to significantly reduce preventable child mortality and redefine pediatric healthcare in the region.

The event was attended by senior government officials, development partners, and an enthusiastic public, marking a key milestone in Yobe State’s journey toward improving healthcare services.
