The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, national security, and sustainable environmental development in Nigeria.
“Strengthening National Security for Peace and Prosperity is the second pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris said, explaining that “no nation can achieve sustainable development without peace and stability.”
The minister stated this at the seventh session of the Ministerial Press Briefing Series held on Wednesday at the National Press Centre in Abuja.
The minister stated that the interactive forum was established to keep Nigerians informed about the major achievements and policy initiatives of various ministries under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Administration.
According to the Minister, the Tinubu administration has matched its security commitments with tangible actions, including procurement of advanced armaments, enhanced intelligence operations, intensive personnel training, and global security collaborations.
Idris called on media professionals to support the morale of the armed forces by reporting their achievements accurately while avoiding sensationalism that gives undue attention to terror groups.
He said, “We must deny these groups the undue publicity they crave. We must take them off the front pages and accurately report them as the criminals they are”.
He argues, “These are not freedom fighters; they are murderers, kidnappers, and destroyers.”
Speaking on the environment, the minister assured that the Ministry would provide updates on Nigeria’s green initiatives and ecosystem restoration efforts.
Idris also commended the media for their consistent participation in the press briefing series, stating that their work is “invaluable” in fostering a well-informed and engaged citizenry.
During the event, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated that the interactive forum was established to keep Nigerians informed about the major achievements and policy initiatives of various ministries under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Administration.
The briefing featured the Minister of Environment, Alhaji Balarabe Abbas, the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, and the Minister of State for Defence, Alhaji Muhammed Bello Matawalle.
He said, “This forum presents a vital opportunity for both ministers to update Nigerians on the key achievements, ongoing initiatives, and policy directions of the Ministries of Defence and Environment,” Idris said. “We continue to demonstrate our commitment to transparency, accountability, and public engagement.”
