Over 1.5 Million Candidates Score Below 200 in 2025 UTME — JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the official breakdown of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), revealing that more than 1.5 million candidates scored below 200.

JAMB announced this in data made public on Monday, stating that out of the 1,955,069 candidates who sat for the exam, only 420,415 scored above 200, representing about 21 percent. Fewer than one percent managed to score over 300.

The board disclosed that 40,247 underage candidates also took part in the examination, describing them as applicants with “exceptional abilities.” However, only 467 of them reached the required cut-off to proceed to further assessment stages.

JAMB also confirmed that 97 candidates were caught in acts of malpractice, while 2,157 others are still under investigation.

Additionally, 71,701 candidates failed to turn up for the exam.

The board noted that results for visually impaired candidates and those under the JEOG category are being finalised, with a press conference scheduled later in the week to announce how candidates can access their individual results.
