Group Commends FCT Senator’s Plan to Renovate 62 Healthcare Centres

A civic technology platform, MonITNG, has lauded Senator Ireti Kingibe for prioritising the renovation of 62 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), describing the move as “commendable and timely.”

MonITNG, which empowers citizens to monitor public projects and access data across Nigeria, made this known in a statement on Sunday. The platform credited its sustained advocacy on the poor state of PHCs in the FCT as a driving force behind the planned intervention.

“This move directly responds to residents’ urgent healthcare needs and underscores the importance of responsive governance,” the platform stated.

For months, MonITNG has documented the dire conditions in underserved FCT communities, where many residents are forced to travel long distances during emergencies due to non-functional health centres.

“In these areas, women give birth without skilled attendants, children suffer from preventable illnesses due to lack of basic medication, and entire communities are left without access to essential healthcare,” the statement noted.

The platform announced that its team will be on the ground to monitor the renovation of the 62 PHCs, promising to verify implementation timelines, engage local communities, and provide independent progress reports to promote transparency and accountability.

“As we begin preparations for tracking, we respectfully request Senator Ireti Kingibe to publicly release the full list of the PHCs scheduled for renovation,” MonITNG appealed. “This will enhance our monitoring efforts, enable efficient planning, and ensure equitable attention across all affected communities.”

MonITNG described the initiative as “a crucial step toward improving healthcare access in the FCT” and pledged continued collaboration with relevant stakeholders to ensure every resident can access “safe, functional, and reliable primary healthcare services.”

“The people deserve no less,” the statement concluded.
