Minister Moves to Improve Water Infrastructure in FCT, Contacts Chinese Company

In a strategic move to enhance water supply in Abuja’s satellite towns, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, is currently in China for discussions with the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction (CGCOC) Group.

This initiative comes on the heels of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s urgent directive to address the chronic water supply issues plaguing rural communities within the FCT.

In a statement on Thursday, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, revealed the purpose of Minister Wike’s trip, saying: “Following the President’s directive and the approval of ₦50 billion for water supply in FCT satellite towns, the Honourable Minister is en route to China for high-level engagements with the CGCOC Group.” The visit is seen as a crucial step toward securing investments aimed at improving water infrastructure in the Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Kuje Area Councils.

This diplomatic mission is not just a routine affair; it is a continuation of the collaboration initiated during President Tinubu’s September visit to China, where a vital Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was established with CGCOC and other construction giants. This pact aims to boost Nigeria’s infrastructure development efforts in underserved areas, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to delivering essential services to the populace.

President Tinubu has repeatedly stated the importance of such projects, emphasizing that “we must renew the hope of our people with projects that directly touch their lives—water is a fundamental one.” These remarks underscore the administration’s goal to rebuild citizens’ trust through tangible advancements in public services.
