The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, as a public holiday in honour of this year’s Workers’ Day celebration. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the decision on behalf of the government, emphasizing the importance of peace in driving industrialization and economic growth. He praised the efforts of Nigerian workers, acknowledging that their hard work and sacrifice have contributed significantly to the nation’s greatness. “There is dignity in labour; the dedication and commitment to the work we do is vital to nation-building,” Tunji-Ojo affirmed.

The Minister urged workers to embrace a culture of innovation and productivity to help transform governance and maximize the nation’s resources. He called on citizens to raise the standard of their trade and contribute meaningfully to national development. “This Administration is fully committed to the security of life and property of every citizen and foreigners in the country,” he assured, reaffirming the government’s dedication to safeguarding all who reside within Nigeria’s borders.

As the country prepares to celebrate its workforce, Tunji-Ojo extended warm wishes to all Nigerian workers and encouraged them to remain hopeful. He reminded the public of the current administration’s dedication to the Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Tinubu. “While wishing workers a happy celebration, the Honourable Minister urged Nigerians to keep hope alive,” he concluded.
