In a major step towards improving access to healthcare, the Mayor of Anaocha Local Government Area, Comrade Rome Ibekwe, has enrolled over one thousand residents into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme (ASHIA).

During a community gathering at the Anaocha Local Government Headquarters in Neni on Monday, Comrade Ibekwe emphasized the importance of this initiative, especially in the current economic climate.

“Healthcare is essential considering what people are experiencing presently,” he stated, highlighting that the program—carried out in partnership with St. Cletus Hospital, Neni—will benefit rural dwellers, including the elderly, pregnant women, and other vulnerable groups.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of St. Cletus Hospital, Mr. Calistus Obianodo, affirmed the hospital’s commitment to supporting the welfare of the people.

“With the level of poverty in the society, those who benefited have added much to their lives,” he remarked. Mr. Obianodo praised the Mayor’s initiative and encouraged other well-meaning individuals to join in uplifting the underprivileged by supporting similar healthcare interventions.

Mrs. Ngozi Agejelu, a representative of ASHIA, outlined the structure and benefits of the insurance scheme, explaining how it significantly reduces the cost of healthcare for enrollees.

“The scheme has helped in saving lives, through reduced cost to give people easy access to healthcare services,” she said.

The event marked a meaningful collaboration between the government, healthcare providers, and the community to enhance well-being in Anaocha.
