The Kogi State Government has officially flagged off its Polio Vaccination Campaign alongside the celebration of African Vaccination Week, aiming to protect children from the devastating effects of poliovirus.
The campaign, spearheaded by the Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KSPHCDA) in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health and key partners, marks the 2025 National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs).
Highlighting the critical role of vaccines, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, represented by Mrs. Dorcas Enehe Omeneke, urged parents and caregivers to welcome vaccinators, stressing, “Together, let’s keep Kogi State polio-free and build a healthier future for our children.”
Speaking during the event, Executive Director of KSPHCDA, Dr.
Mu’azu Omeiza Musa emphasized that immunization saves lives and strengthens communities.
He announced that the campaign, running from April 26 to 29, 2025, targets all children aged 0-59 months through a door-to-door approach to ensure no eligible child is missed.
Thanking frontline workers, community mobilizers, and partners for their dedication, he reassured parents of the vaccine’s safety and vital role, warning, “Until polio is eradicated everywhere, no child is safe anywhere.” The agency reaffirmed its commitment to achieving immunization equity across the state.
Representatives from WHO, UNICEF, and NPHCDA reaffirmed their support for the initiative, while traditional leaders, led by HRH King Bukar Khalid, pledged to mobilize communities to embrace vaccination efforts.
At the ceremony’s conclusion, Director of Administration at KSPHCDA, Mr. Ijalija Okpanachi David extended heartfelt gratitude to the Executive Governor, the Health Commissioner, partners, traditional leaders, healthcare workers, and volunteers for their unwavering commitment to making the NIPDs and African Vaccination Week a success, all united in the vision of a healthier, polio-free Kogi State.
