Biometric Glitch Disrupts UTME for 2 Abuja Candidates, JAMB Reschedules Exam

Two candidates scheduled to sit for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) at the Sascon International School Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre in Abuja were unable to write their exam on Friday due to biometric verification failures.

The affected candidates, Isamial Muhammad and Tersee Deborah on Friday, were denied access after repeated attempts to capture their biometric data proved unsuccessful. “I studied all night and travelled from far, only to be told I can’t write because of biometrics,” Muhammad said, visibly disappointed.

Deborah, recounting her ordeal, said, “This is the second time I’m having issues. I felt like I’m not meant to write JAMB. We tried everything to capture my biometrics, but it wasn’t working. Eventually, they asked us to go home. I stayed back because I live far, and until my mum called that JAMB had sent a message for us to return for recapturing.”

In a conversation with Africa Health Report (AHR), the centre supervisor, Mr. Saadudeen Musa, told AHR that the two candidates had been recaptured and would be rescheduled. “Only two students had issues today. They’ve been recaptured and will be rescheduled. The system has been stable overall,” he stated.

The examination, which began on April 24 and will run through May 5, 2025, continues nationwide in accredited CBT centres, with over 250 candidates per session. Despite Friday’s isolated glitch, the second session at the Abuja centre reportedly proceeded smoothly, with no delays or technical disruptions.
