Benue Rallies Support for Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign Begins Citywide Walk

In preparation for the upcoming measles-rubella vaccination campaign scheduled for October, the Benue State government organized a sensitisation walk in Makurdi.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs and the campaign coordinator Hon. Scholastica Ben-Sor, led the initiative, emphasizing the need to dispel myths and misinformation surrounding the vaccine.

She reiterated Governor Hyacinth Alia’s dedication to competence, equity, and compassion, expressing confidence in the campaign’s outreach and success.

Ben-Sor highlighted plans to extend advocacy efforts to all 23 local government areas, with support from local council chairmen, their spouses, traditional rulers, and community leaders.

Radio and TV jingles, along with collaboration from the State Primary Healthcare Board and development partners, will enhance public awareness.

With 277 functioning healthcare facilities in the state, the campaign aims to reach grassroots communities and ensure widespread vaccine uptake.

Mrs. Grace Wende, Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Board, assured residents of the vaccine’s safety and shared updates on ongoing facility rehabilitation and healthcare worker training.

Leaders including Dr. Patience Okpeh of the Medical Women Association, Mrs. Helen Agaigbe of the APC Women’s Wing, and Dr. Gift Izenyi, a representative for the measles-rubella program, urged citizens to take advantage of the free vaccines.

The walk, which stretched from Savannah Roundabout to Government House Roundabout, saw participation from various stakeholders, including members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Benue Chapter.
