Gunmen have attacked Faruruwa community in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, abducting the son of a prominent trader in a brazen Thursday evening raid, AHR has learned.
The attack occurred around 7:00 p.m., when the armed men stormed the quiet community, firing sporadically into the air to disperse residents before proceeding to their target location.
Eyewitnesses told AHR that the assailants were searching for Alhaji Haruna Halilu, a well-known trader in the area. However, upon discovering he was not at his shop, they seized his son, Mas’ud Halilu.
“They came suddenly and started shooting. When they realized Alhaji Haruna wasn’t there, they abducted his son instead,” said Ibrahim Faruruwa, a resident who witnessed the incident.
The attack has heightened fears of insecurity in Kano’s rural communities, where incidents of kidnapping and banditry have seen a worrying uptick in recent months.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said police operatives are already investigating the matter.
“We are aware of the attack. Our officers have been deployed to the area, and an investigation is ongoing. We will release full details once available,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, it remains unclear whether there were additional casualties or abductees in the attack.
