NSCDC Uncovers 5 Illegal Oil Dumps in Abuja, Arrests 7 Suspects

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has uncovered five illegal crude oil dumps in the Jahi/Katampe axis of Abuja, arresting seven suspects in connection with the operation.

According to a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by NSCDC Spokesperson Afolabi Babawale, the discovery was made by the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, which also recovered several trucks and materials used for illegal crude oil refining and distribution.

Among the seized items were a white truck with three compartments loaded with 45,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and four Mercedes-Benz short peddler trucks. The squad also recovered several pumping machines, hoses, a Mikano generator, and about 23 surface metallic tanks—some filled with suspected AGO—as well as a container shelter used for the illegal activity.

The corps emphasized that the operation underscores its commitment to tackling oil theft and related crimes across the country and the suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the law to serve as a deterrent to others involved in crude oil theft.
