The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has alerted the public to the circulation of fraudulent messages targeting candidates registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
In a statement signed by its Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin on Wednesday, JAMB revealed that suspected fraudsters have been using a deceptive sort code combining a numerical variant of the UTME (8863) with the Board’s official sort code (55019) to impersonate the Board’s messaging system.
The messages falsely claim that candidates’ JAMB details have been manipulated and direct recipients to contact individuals promising to resolve the supposed issues.
“These messages are not from JAMB,” the statement clarified. “Security agencies have been notified and are tracking those behind the scam.”
Candidates are advised to ignore such communications, which the Board described as a common tactic used by fraudsters during examination periods to exploit unsuspecting candidates.
JAMB urged the public to remain cautious and verify all messages through its official channels to avoid falling victim to scams.
