Jigawa Seeks Enhanced UBEC Partnership to Strengthen Basic Education

The Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, has called for deeper collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to address pressing challenges in the state’s basic education sector.

According to a statement released by UBEC’s Head of Public Relations and Protocol, David Apeh on Friday, Governor Namadi made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja. Discussions centered on key issues such as infrastructure maintenance, teacher shortages, and strategies to boost school enrolment, particularly among girls.

Governor Namadi emphasized his administration’s commitment to inclusive and quality education, highlighting the innovative engagement of women as community mobilizers to raise awareness on the importance of education and increase enrolment.

In her response, UBEC Executive Secretary, Aisha Garba, commended Jigawa State for its consistent payment of counterpart funds and effective implementation of UBEC-supported projects. She affirmed that the state’s transparency and dedication have led to increased access to intervention funds.

Garba also disclosed that Jigawa will benefit from the upcoming Hope-Edu World Bank-funded initiative and revealed plans to strengthen teacher capacity through targeted training programmes aimed at improving education delivery across the state.
