The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Gusau, Katsina State held an educational presentation on meningitis and its preventive measures at the newly renamed Dr Anka Mohammed Kabir Auditorium.

The session was led by Dr Kabiru Mohammed Mande, a consultant in infectious diseases and Head of Internal Medicine, who detailed the disease’s prevalence, symptoms, complications, and infection control strategies.

The event, focusing on public health awareness, addressed the urgent need for proactive measures against meningitis, a major cause of epidemics in northern Nigeria.

In his remarks, the medical director, Dr Bello A. Mohammed, urged the staff to offer compassionate care, saying patients should be “treated as VIPs,” with the same empathy and attention one would give to a family member.

He called on all personnel to preserve the hospital environment as they would personal belongings and reminded them of the lasting spiritual consequences of patient interactions: “If you helped patients and they blessed you, you may remain blessed for the rest of your life. And if they curse you, who knows what will befall you?”

The event also served as a platform to honour the former medical director, Dr Anka Mohammed Kabir, after whom the auditorium was named.

Head of Clinical Service and Training Dr Umar Abdullahi, expressed appreciation to the management for the recognition and praised the relevance of the topic discussed.

He joined Dr Bello in calling for prayers, goodwill, and political backing as FMC Gusau continues its journey toward becoming a teaching hospital.

Distinguished attendees included past and present leadership figures of the Centre, reflecting the significance of the event within the medical community.
