Twin brothers, Matthew and Matthias Busoye, have made history at the University of Ibadan by graduating with first-class honours and an identical CGPA of 3.94 out of 4.00 from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering.

Their remarkable feat not only placed them at the top of their department but also earned them the title of Best Graduating Students in the Faculty of Technology for the 2023/2024 academic session.

“Truth be told, this still feels surreal,” Matthew wrote on X. “My brother and I standing here today isn’t a reflection of being the most deserving or most diligent students; far from it. But for some reason, we are here.”

Matthias, in his own post, reflected on their consistent academic performance, revealing their CGPAs from 100 to 500 level remained among the highest in their cohort.

“We had 3.84 and 3.89 at 100 level, 3.92 and 3.94 at 200 level, 3.95 and 3.93 at 300 level, 3.94 and 3.93 at 400 level respectively, and ultimately ended with the same CGPA of 3.94,” he shared.

Beyond academics, both brothers contributed significantly to student leadership—Matthias served as the Speaker of the 11th Assembly of the UI Students’ Representative Council, while Matthew led as President of the Society of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Students (SEEES-UI).

The Society formally celebrated the Busoye brothers for their academic excellence and leadership.

A heartfelt moment from their graduation ceremony, now viral, shows their mother holding their hands in prayer, symbolizing the strength of family support in their journey.

At the induction ceremony, the hall erupted in thunderous applause as the twins were called on stage together.

“Rooted in my personal journey, I shared words I hope will inspire someone to rise above present struggles and keep pushing forward,” Matthew said in his induction speech, capturing the spirit of perseverance that defines their story.
