Residents of Gezawa Local Government Area in Kano State have been thrown into mourning following the tragic drowning of two women in a pond.

Reports indicate that the women—whose names were withheld—met their untimely death while taking a bath in the pond after returning from work at a hibiscus processing factory.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi Gezawa, the agency received a distress call from local vigilante members in the area, who said the incident was first reported to them by relatives of the deceased women.

He stated that rescue officers were immediately dispatched to the scene, where they recovered the victims from the water in an unconscious state. Medical personnel later confirmed that the women had died.

Saminu added that the bodies were handed over to a police officer, Musa Garba, from the Gezawa Divisional Police Station.

He advised members of the public to avoid bathing or loitering near ponds and rivers to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
