The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Friday Onu, who was captured in a viral video assaulting Mrs. Yetunde Amole on the Lekki-Epe Expressway while attempting to steal her car battery.
Africa Health Report (AHR) investigations reveal that the incident occurred around 2 p.m. on Monday, April 7, near the Oriental Hotel.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin on Wednesday, Amole bravely resisted the theft, leading to the suspect violently attacking her.
“The Lagos State Police Command is aware of a viral video… depicting the assault of one Yetunde Amole by a suspected thug near the Oriental Hotel,” Hundeyin stated.
Prompt action by officers of the Maroko Division led to Onu’s swift arrest shortly after the assault. However, while in custody, the suspect reportedly fell ill and was transferred to Falomo Police Hospital for treatment.
“Preparations for his arraignment were underway when he suddenly took ill,” the statement revealed.
“He is currently receiving treatment under close supervision.”, the statement added.
The police have assured the public that Onu will be charged in court once declared fit to stand trial. “The Command condemns this act in the strongest terms,” Hundeyin emphasized, adding that Amole’s courage is commendable.
He reiterated the police’s commitment to ensuring public safety and urged continued cooperation from residents.
“We assure her and all victims of crime that their cases will be thoroughly pursued to ensure justice is served”, Hundeyin assured.
