FUOYE VC Cleared VC of Sexual Harassment Allegations

The Governing Council of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), has officially cleared the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, of sexual harassment allegations brought against him by Mrs. Folasade Adebayo, a senior lecturer at the institution.

In a statement released by the university registrar and secretary of the council, Mr. Mufutau Ibrahim, it was revealed that the council thoroughly investigated the claims, including reviewing alleged audio recordings with the help of a translator.

“Members held that there was no sexual harassment, which equally confirms the earlier investigation by the Nigerian police, where Adebayo made a statement that she was not sexually harassed,” the council stated.

To ensure impartiality during the investigation, the Vice Chancellor was asked to recuse himself from the council meeting where the findings were deliberated.

After extensive discussion, the council concluded that the audio evidence was instead used as an attempt to blackmail Prof. Fasina into confirming Adebayo as the substantive Director of Works and Services—an appointment beyond his authority.

“Council directed that Adebayo be warned for bringing the name of the university to disrepute. She is directed to write a letter of apology to the council within seven days,” the statement added.

Additionally, the council expressed concern over the university management’s handling of the matter, particularly the preferential treatment allegedly given to Adebayo.

This includes the backdating of her promotion to 2015 in the year 2024, a decision the council deemed irregular.

As a corrective measure, the council has instructed the management to review the promotion and announced that the positions for substantive Director of Physical Planning and Director of Works and Services would be formally advertised.
