The Kwara State Government has received a vital consignment of 1,982 cartons of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) from UNICEF, aimed at tackling child malnutrition across the state.
The supplies were handed over to the government through the Ministry of Health, marking a significant step in the state’s ongoing efforts to enhance child health and reduce malnutrition-related deaths.
Speaking during the handover in Ilorin, the State Commissioner for Health, Amina El-Imam, praised the initiative, stating, “The supply was procured through Ariel Foods Nigeria and made possible through the UNICEF Child Nutrition Fund, a match-funding mechanism designed to provide life-saving nutrition commodities for vulnerable children.”
She attributed the successful delivery to the state’s proactive contribution of $100,000 to the UNICEF fund, noting, “This investment has directly facilitated the procurement and delivery of this vital consignment to ensure effective management of acute malnutrition among children in the state. Kudos to our people’s Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for the timely intervention.”
El-Imam reiterated the administration’s dedication to quality healthcare, especially for the most vulnerable, and expressed gratitude to UNICEF and Ariel Foods Nigeria for their support.
“We will work closely with stakeholders to ensure the RUTF reaches children in need across the state,” she assured, underlining the government’s resolve to ensure effective distribution and impact.
