The Kano State Government has expressed deep sorrow over the recent killing of its indigenes in Edo State, calling for calm while deploying a high-powered delegation to engage with the Edo State Government over the tragic incident.
In a statement on Saturday signed by the Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the state government condemned the attack, which led to the loss of innocent lives, mostly Kano State indigenes.
“This unfortunate incident has caused great concern to the government and the good people of Kano State. We will not relent until justice is served,” Waiya said.
The victims, who were traveling from Port Harcourt to Uromi in Edo State, were reportedly attacked under unclear circumstances.
To ensure justice for the affected individuals and their families, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the immediate dispatch of a high-level delegation to Edo State.
The delegation will meet with Edo State authorities and security agencies to identify the perpetrators and ensure they are brought to justice. Additionally, they will engage with the leadership of the Hausa community in Edo State to discuss the situation and offer recommendations on the way forward.
“The affected individuals, who were on a legitimate journey, deserve justice. The Kano State Government is committed to ensuring that their rights are protected,” the governor stated.
The Kano State Government has urged residents to remain calm and avoid actions that could escalate tensions.
It assured the public that all necessary diplomatic and legal measures are being pursued to address the situation adequately.
Furthermore, the government extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, praying for the peaceful repose of their souls.
“We stand with the families of the victims in this difficult time and will continue to work closely with relevant authorities to ensure that such tragedies do not occur again,” the statement added.
