The Lagos State Police Command has intensified security measures across the state to ensure a peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration, deploying tactical units and conventional officers to strategic locations.
In a statement issued on Saturday on his X account (formerly known as Twitter), the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh had directed the immediate deployment of strike forces, intelligence officers, and patrol teams to identified black spots, recreation centers, and Eid prayer grounds. The move aims to prevent crime and enhance public safety during the festivities.
According to the statement, personnel from the Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Special Protection Unit, and Anti-Bomb Squad will be stationed at key areas, while additional patrol teams will monitor large gatherings to prevent potential security threats. The command is also collaborating with other security and paramilitary agencies to ensure effective coverage.
The commissioner urged officers to maintain professionalism and respect citizens’ rights while enforcing security measures. He also called on residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and report any suspicious activities to the police via the command’s emergency contact numbers.
Residents were further encouraged to report any cases of police misconduct through the Lagos State Command Complaint Response Unit. The police reassured the public of their commitment to maintaining peace and order before, during, and after the celebrations.
